The Custero is an unusual blend unlike any Rioja we've really come across. From Alavesa, on the cooler ridge to the North of the region, this blend has an amazing intensity of fruit balanced with a lightness and drinkability that got us by the second sip!
From 14 tiny plots, the blend is Garnacha, Tempranillo, Viura, Malvasía, Calagraño, Garnacha Gris, Graciano, Monastrell and Malvasía La Rioja (we think that covers them, anyway)! Traditional natural fermentation and aged in old oak casks this, much like all of Roberto's wines, is all about the fruit and terroir.
The name 'Tentenublo' comes from ringing bells - in Rioja, bells are rung to ward off hailstorms (to what effect is less clear) - which accounts for the animated bell chasing a rather blobby-looking hail cloud on some of their labels.
