Quinta do Carvalhao Torto

Now this is a red for lovers of mature Burgundy, but without the eye-watering price. A blend of two grapes: Jaen and Alfrocheiro – you’re forgiven if you haven’t heard of them yet!

Jaen is the same as Mencia, a little Pinot Noir-esque. The tawny colour is instantly recognisable, then a smell of dried berries, herbs and graphite. Delicate in texture, but continues to grow in complexity in the glass, thanks to its extended age in the bottle.
