This is made like no other wine in the region, so forget any preconceptions – if any – you may have about this famously independent wine region. Labelled “Maceratión Carbónica” which means the grape bunches are fermented whole for 15 days in clay Amphora which gives the wines its dark amber colour and rich mouthfeel. Wild aromatics, honeysuckle, blossom, spice… a wine that you just keep tasting well after you’ve finished the glass. “Bat Berri” means “New One” in Basque – new to us too!
