This fortified wine is aged in large oak casks, for an average of at least 10 years. During this time the wine takes on flavours from the oak, changes to a lighter “tawny” colour and a proportion is lost through evaporations (known as the “Angel’s Share”).
With dried fruit aromas, delicate vanilla and chocolate notes. The soft and silky texture and the subtle nuances of wood are balanced by a subtle nuttiness and a refreshing palate. In Porto it’s often drunk cold, as an aperitif with nuts, cheese or charcuterie.
